Home decorating can be very simple if you just take the time to begin with the end in mind.  Have a plan, know where you are headed and stick to the plan!  Nothing pulls your home decor all together better than a well thought out decorating plan.

Your accent color is important to your decorating plan.  The color you choose to accent should come from a home decor item already in the space you wish to complete.  Look for a subtle contrasting color in fabric prints either in draperies or furnishings, perhaps even on a decorative pillow or area rug and select a color that compliments your furnishings to use as your accent color. 

Decorating Tip - Making your accent color "pop" -

Use color to grab attention. A spot here a splash there of an accent color will accomplish the task no doubt! Don't over do it or you will get the opposite effect. The color will run together defeating the entire purpose of your accent color.  Remember in this case less is more.

Decorating Tip - To convert from a formal to a casual or more relaxing atmosphere -

Try arranging your decorative accessories in a more casual manner.  A very formal room would have duplicate items to balance each area such as dual end tables on either side of the sofa with matching lamps.  To get a more casual feeling keep your room balanced and use various objects on each side such  as an end table and a lamp on one side of the sofa and a floor lamp with some greenery on the other.  This way you have the same volume on either side of the sofa for balance and a much more relaxing atmosphere for your guests!

Decorating Tip - Use of lighting -

Proper usage of various lighting effects will guarantee the suaying of moods. Bright light for reading, medium light for those visual necessities, and dim light for romance. Remember to utilize reflections and flickering candlelight for extra special effects.
